The HURT Board of Directors wishes to ensure that each of you is fully informed of the current status of COVID-mitigation actions, requirements for participating in the event, status of race permitting and current COVID-related restrictions for Oahu, and requirements for travel into the State of Hawaii. Please read this entire post thoroughly to be fully informed and make the best decisions for yourselves and your family and friends.

Hawaii, like the entire country, has been hit hard by the presence of the Delta variant (and others).  Having very finite resources in terms of medical facilities and providers, the State has been forced to implement, and continues to enforce, restrictions that are more arduous than found in other states in the U.S.  Please review this summary carefully and consider how these requirements and restrictions would impact your experience in the HURT 100.

COVID-19 mitigation actions and participation requirements in place for HURT 100:

  • All runners and pacers must show proof of vaccination.  Non-vaccinated persons will not be allowed in the event.
  • Each runner is limited to one active crew member at any given time.  Crewing will not occur in the aid station perimeter but will be allowed adjacent to the Nature Center and Manoa aid stations.
  • Face coverings will be required for the start of the event and at any time when social distancing is not possible.
  • Failing to follow COVID-19 mitigation requirements by the runner, pacer, or crew, could cause the immediate removal of the runner from the event.
  • HURT will have no gatherings.  The bag pick-up with be drive-through, race briefing will be virtual, spectators will not be allowed to linger at the start or finish, and the status of a dinner on Monday following the event is unknown at this time.  We are hopeful to be able to host an outdoor event, but that is dependent upon gathering size restrictions*.
  • All runners and pacers will need to have a temperature less than 100.4 degrees centigrade, taken using Tympanic thermometer.  If above 100.4, we will confirm with an oral thermometer.

Status of current restrictions and requirements for the island of Oahu:

  • At the time of publishing this post, HURT 100 has no permits.  Currently, through October 19, the City and County of Honolulu is not allowing “public competitions”, which includes all organized racing.  This is likely to change, but we are unable to say with any certainty that we will receive permits in time for the January event. Stay tuned; we will update the minute this changes.
  • Bars and restaurants will only serve patrons who show proof of vaccination and identification or a negative COVID test within the past 48-hours and identification with the same identifying information as the proof of negative COVID-19 test. There is a 10 p.m. curfew for alcohol consumption at establishments offering liquor for on-site consumption.
  • Face coverings are required when in public settings.
  • *Gathering size is limited to 10 persons for indoor activity and to 25 persons for outdoor activity.
  • Note: State restrictions are scheduled to continue through November 30.  These include but are not limited to travel requirements and restrictions related to businesses.  City and County of Honolulu restrictions are scheduled to continue through October 19.  These include but are not limited to gathering size limits and permitting of activities.

Travelling to Hawaii from the United States and United States Territories:

  • Under Governor Ige’s emergency proclamation, all travelers entering the State of Hawaii must self-quarantine for 10 days, unless they obtain an exception/exemption.
  • You can apply for an exception/exemption by:
  • Uploading a negative COVID-19 test result from Hawaii’s Trusted Testing and Travel Partners, found on https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel-partners/
  • Uploading a picture of your COVID-19 vaccination card.  At this time, only vaccinations received in the United States or United States territories qualify for a vaccine exception.
  • Using digital health pass such as CommonPass or Clear – to present either a negative COVID-19 test or proof of vaccination
  • Applying for a specialty exemption at https://ag.hawaii.gov/travelexemption/
  • For all travelers who do not get properly tested or who have not been vaccinated in accordance with the current vaccine exemptions, Hawaii Governor David Ige mandates all visitors arriving in the Hawaiian Islands to self-quarantine for 10 days

Travelling to Hawaii from outside of the United States and United States Territories:

  • The State of Hawaii does not accept proof of vaccination from any country outside of the United States for the purposes of its Safe Travels Program.
  • For international travelers arriving in the State of Hawai‘i from Japan, Canada, Korea, Taiwan, Philippines and Tahiti, only tests from Trusted Testing Partners will be accepted for purposes of bypassing the State’s 10-day traveler quarantine including any tests verified through the State’s Digital Health Pass Partners AZOVACLEAR and CommonPass.
  • You must complete pre-travel testing that will allow travelers to bypass Hawaii’s mandatory10-day quarantine restrictions, as long as they bring along proof of a negative COVID-19 test from a state-approved trusted testing partner. All travelers must have their negative test results within 72 hours prior to the final leg of departure. Information regarding testing requirements and accepted testing partners can be found here: https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel/
  • Travelers originating from any other international destination and coming directly to Hawai‘i do not have the ability to test for purposes of bypassing the State’s 10-day traveler quarantine. If there is no state-approved testing partner in your country, you may need to stop on the U.S. mainland for a couple days and get tested.
  • For all travelers who do not get properly tested or who have not been vaccinated in accordance with the current vaccine exemptions, Hawaii Governor David Ige mandates all visitors arriving in the Hawaiian Islands to self-quarantine for 10 days

Please be assured that HURT 100 is doing everything possible to do the right thing for our runners, and to present a quality, enjoyable experience for all of you. That said, if you are a runner currently on the start list and are unable to participate in January, you may withdraw from the event prior to October 30, 2021.  Your place on the entrants list can be rolled over to the 2023 event on January 14-15, 2023 upon request.

If you are a waitlisted runner and are unable to participate in the 2022 event, you may withdraw from the event at any time. If you are moved from the waitlist to the start list, you will have the option to decline. However, your entry will not be rolled over to 2023.

For the time being, we will not move additional runners from the waitlist to the start list until we determine how many entrants we will be permitted to have.

The above restrictions and requirements are subject to change prior to the event. Entrants that withdraw from the event after October 30, and prior to November 12, 2021, will receive a full refund. In the event that the event is not able to be permitted, or the permits and event are canceled due to any circumstances beyond our control after November 12, 2021, no refunds will be given and all entrants will be rolled over to the January 14-15, 2023 event.
