As many of you know, Don Fallis has gone to Badwater as part of the team supporting and pacing Monica Scholz. (This is what overly modest Don called "another trip to the mainland.")
Live race coverage will be available by clicking here.
The Badwater race starts Monday (7/11) morning from Badwater in Death Valley and goes for 135 miles up to the Mount Whitney Portals. It is arguably one of the hardest ultra races due to the extreme heat challenges.
The participants in the race start at three different times: 6:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., and 10:00 a.m. Monica (number 3) will be starting at 10:00 a.m. Again, keep in mind Monica will be starting at 10:00 a.m., so initially it will appear she is behind a lot of other runners. However, Monica is one of the top ultra runners and if all goes well, should finish very near the top finishers.
Here is a roster of all participants. There a few names on here you might recognize, including seven-time Western State’s winner, Scott Jurek (in his first BW attempt) and H.U.R.T. 100 winner, Mike Sweeney. H.U.R.T. friend and runner, Leon Draxler (himself a past BW finisher), is also serving on the Race Operations Team. Good luck to all the runners!
