The start of the 2006 H.U.R.T. 100 is less than 48 hours away. For those of us running it–Yikes! For those who are organizing it–double Yikes!! So many last minute details.
The weather is predicted to be sunny Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with rain predicted for Monday. The trade winds are up today (Thursday) and it is supposed to be cloudy today though the sun is out as I write this. Anytime the trade winds are blowing, rain is possible. The wind also drys out the course. Right now, conditions are looking like the course will be the driest it has ever been for a H.U.R.T. 100.
If you are here in Hawaii and are not participating in some way, try to stop by one of the aid stations this weekend. The aid stations are at the Hawaii Nature Center, Paradise Park in the back of Manoa Valley, and in Nuuanu, on old Pali road, by Jackass Ginger. Also, when you get ready to slip into your nice, comfortable, and warm bed on Saturday night, just know that a group of us will be out on the trails all night.
Certainly all the volunteers and organizers will be deserving of a big aloha and mahalo (thank you) for all they will be doing this weekend. Without them, this race would not happen.
We have some amazing athletes competing this weekend. I am not just talking about the top runners. That includes everyone who makes the decision to enter and participate. Good luck to all the participants.
