Medical Support

Volunteer Coordinator: Sarah and Adeeba

DETAILS:

HURT 100 will offer a robust medical team made up of volunteers with first aid experience.  We will only provide Basic Life Support Care and will not provide any medications to the runners.  The primary responsibility of the Medical Team is to assess runners, bandage if needed and determine if a runner is able to continue in the race.  The team works with the Aid Station Captain and Incident Commander to determine the appropriate care of injured runners and facilitate the transfer to a higher level of care if necessary.

Aid Station Medical Team:
  • Prefer BLS (basic life support) certification, CPR Certification or Military equivalent
  • Experience with trail running a plus
  • Experience with bandaging a plus
Trail Medical Team:
  • See Aid Station Medical requirements
  • Ability to HIKE (not run) 14 miles with a backpack (with significant vertical gain)
  • Knowledge of the HURT 100 Trails a plus
  • Experience with trail running a plus
The trail medical shifts are 6 hours in duration.  The team will be responsible for helping injured runners, triaging and making medical decisions as to whether or not the runner can continue.  If the runner can't continue, the team will assess extrication options.  The trail system is remote and there are only a couple of places where you can reach a vehicle.

There will be a mandatory meeting (virtual or maybe in person) for all medical volunteers to review medical guidelines, protocols, HURT 100 race rules and communication guidelines.
